Terms of Service

Last updated: February 2026

These terms govern your use of LEADR, including the API, website, app, SDKs, documentation, and any related services. By creating an account or using the API, you agree to these terms.

LEADR is operated by Barney Jackson, a sole trader (autónomo) registered in Andalucía, Spain.

We've written these terms to be readable. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@leadr.gg.

The short version

You own your data. We host and process it to provide the service. You can use LEADR for any lawful purpose, including commercial projects, on any plan including the free tier. Don't abuse the platform, don't break the law, and don't ruin things for other developers.

Definitions

LEADR refers to the service as a whole: the API, website (leadr.gg and subdomains), app, SDKs, CLI, documentation, and any associated tools.

Developer or you refers to anyone who creates a LEADR account to use the service.

Player refers to an end-user of a game or application that integrates with the LEADR API.

We, us, and our refer to LEADR and its operator.

Accounts

You must be at least 16 years old to create a LEADR account.

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials and API keys secure. Do not share API keys with third parties or expose them in client-side code, public repositories, or any other publicly accessible location. We reserve the right to suspend accounts where API keys have been shared or compromised.

You may only maintain one account. If you need to manage multiple games or projects, you can do so within a single account.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you:

  • Violate these terms or use the service for illegal purposes.

  • Abuse the platform in ways that degrade the service for other developers.

  • Fail to pay for a paid plan after reasonable notice.

  • Share or negligently expose your API keys.

If we suspend or terminate your account, we will notify you by email and explain the reason, except where doing so would compromise security or legal obligations. You may request your data within 30 days of termination.

Plans, billing, and cancellation

LEADR offers a free tier and paid plans. All plans, including the free tier, may be used for commercial purposes.

Paid subscriptions are billed through our merchant of record, Paddle. Paddle handles all payment processing, invoicing, and applicable taxes. Your billing relationship for payments is with Paddle, and their terms apply to payment transactions.

You can cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. We do not offer pro-rata refunds for partial billing periods as standard, though we may choose to do so at our discretion. Our decision on refund requests is final.

Usage limits

Each plan has defined usage limits, including monthly score submissions, number of boards, and number of games. Current limits are published on our pricing page.

When you approach your plan limits, we will notify you by email and in the app. Here is how enforcement works:

Soft limit (the advertised limit): We restrict account-level actions such as creating new games or boards. Your existing games continue to function normally, including accepting and serving score submissions.

Hard limit (a grace margin above the soft limit): Score submissions are blocked. This will affect your live games. We strongly recommend upgrading your plan or reducing usage before reaching this point.

We reserve the right to adjust the grace margin between soft and hard limits at any time.

API usage and rate limits

The API is rate-limited to 10 requests per second per client, with burst allowance up to 50 requests per second. These limits exist to protect the platform for all users and may be adjusted as the service scales.

If you consistently need higher throughput, contact us to discuss your requirements.

Acceptable use

You may use LEADR for any lawful purpose. It's designed for games, but we don't restrict use to games specifically. Leaderboards for non-game applications are fine.

You must not:

  • Use LEADR for any activity that violates applicable law.

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, other accounts, or our infrastructure.

  • Deliberately submit fraudulent or malicious data designed to degrade the service.

  • Use the service in a way that places unreasonable load on our infrastructure beyond your plan's limits and the published rate limits.

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the LEADR cloud service (this does not apply to our open-source repositories, which are separately licensed).

  • Resell access to the LEADR API without prior written agreement.

Anti-cheat and score integrity

LEADR includes measures to detect and flag suspicious score submissions. If we detect patterns consistent with cheating or abuse:

  • We may flag individual scores for review by the game's developer.

  • We may apply automatic filters to suspicious submissions.

  • In cases where cheating degrades the platform for other developers or users, we may escalate to account suspension.

Developers are primarily responsible for managing score integrity within their own games. LEADR's anti-cheat measures are a supplementary layer, not a guarantee.

Data ownership and licensing

Your data is yours. You retain full ownership of all data you submit to LEADR, including game configurations, scores, and player data.

By using the service, you grant us a limited licence to store, process, display, and transmit your data solely for the purpose of providing and improving the service. This licence ends when you delete your data or your account.

We will never use your data for purposes unrelated to the service, sell it, or share it with advertisers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Public leaderboard pages

LEADR can generate public web pages displaying leaderboard data for your games. This feature is enabled by default when you create a board and can be disabled at any time in your board settings.

By leaving public leaderboard pages enabled, you grant us permission to display the associated score data (including player display names and scores) on publicly accessible web pages hosted by LEADR.

If you disable this feature, the public page is removed promptly. Cached versions may persist briefly in CDN or search engine caches, which is outside our control.

Open-source components

The LEADR API server (leadr-oss) and SDKs are released under the Apache 2.0 licence. Your use of these components is governed by that licence.

The LEADR cloud service (the hosted platform you access via the app or SDKs) is a separate product. These Terms of Service govern your use of the cloud service, regardless of whether you also use the open-source components.

Data export

You can export your data from LEADR. If automated export is not yet available for the data you need, contact us and we will provide a manual export within a reasonable timeframe.

Service availability

We aim to keep LEADR available and reliable, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access.

Free tier: No uptime commitment. We will make reasonable efforts to maintain availability, but outages may occur without notice.

Indie plan: We target 99.69% uptime, measured monthly (roughly 1.3 hours of downtime per month).

Studio plan: We target 99.9% uptime, measured monthly (roughly 43 minutes of downtime per month).

Uptime targets exclude scheduled maintenance (which we will announce in advance) and circumstances beyond our reasonable control. These targets are goals, not contractual guarantees with financial penalties. We do not currently offer SLA credits.

Beta and preview features

We may occasionally offer features labelled as "beta", "preview", or "experimental". These features are provided as-is, without uptime commitments or stability guarantees. They may change, break, or be removed without notice.

We will clearly label such features. Your use of beta features is voluntary, and you should not rely on them for production applications.

Disclaimers

LEADR is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted, or that it will meet your specific requirements.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill.

Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or related to the service shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or €100, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud or wilful misconduct.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

If you disagree with updated terms, you may close your account before they take effect.

You can always find the current version at leadr.gg/terms.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Spain and, where applicable, EU law.

If a dispute arises, we encourage you to contact us first at hello@leadr.gg so we can try to resolve it informally. We will make good-faith efforts to address your concern within 30 days.

If informal resolution fails, any legal proceedings shall be brought before the courts of Andalucía, Spain, unless applicable consumer protection law in your jurisdiction requires otherwise.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.
